Chronology of cameras Blair
This stereo folding camera was meticulously crafted by Blair in 1904, a period when the company, already acquired by Kodak, still had manufacturing autonomy. The first in a series of several Stereo Hawkeye models, this camera is simple and easy to use. It allows for capturing square stereo pairs of 8 cm each on 101 film.
The stereo shutter, with basic settings featuring a single instant speed, and the Rapid Rectilinear lenses, are sourced from Bausch & Lomb. The aperture markings adhere to the old American notation where 4 corresponds to the current f/8. The distance scale is in meters and feet, and the viewfinder is fixed.
The ensemble, with its two red leather bellows, mahogany, brass, and nickel components, is a visual delight. Even before the concept of design was widely discussed, Blair demonstrated a knack for selecting materials and forms that produced objects where technicality harmonized with aesthetics.
Note: The name Hawkeye is written without a hyphen on stereo models, while Blair's catalogs indicate them as HAWK-EYE.
